It's that time of year again, where thousands of smokers all over the world are encouraged to start their journey to quit smoking: Stoptober. We know this year has been far from normal, but that doesn't mean you can't make the most of it and take a step forward for your health!

For those not in the know, Stoptober is a Public Health England yearly initiative which aims to give you the tools and support you need to help quit for good.

The pitch is simple enough: If you can quit within 28 days you're five times as likely to quit for good.

Now there are multiple ways to start your qutting journey; from patches to gum, from tablets to even nasal sprays, but there's no better way to help quit for good than using e-cigarettes.

Public Health England heavily voiced their support for the use of vaping as a cessation aid back in 2018, with a conclusion after a rigourous study that states "vaping is 95% less harmful than the use of tobacco".

And following a major clinical trial published the the UK, it had concluded that when combined with expert face-to-face support, people who used e-cigarettes to quit smoking were twice as likely to succeed as people who used other nicotine replacement products, such as patches or gum.

So, are you ready to start your journey to a healthier you? Great! Let's dive right in.

What happens when you quit?

After 20 minutes:

Check your pulse rate, it will already be starting to return to normal.

After 8 hours:

Your oxygen levels are recovering, and the harmful carbon monoxide level in your blood will have reduced by half.

After 48 hours:

All carbon monoxide is flushed out. Your lungs are clearing out mucus and your senses of taste and smell are improving.

After 72 hours:

If you notice that breathing feels easier, it's because your bronchial tubes have started to relax. Also your energy will be increasing.

After 2 to 12 weeks:

Blood will be pumping through to your heart and muscles much better because your circulation will have improved.

After 3 to 9 months:

Any coughs, wheezing or breathing problems will be improving as your lung function increases by up to 10%.

After 1 year:

Great news! Your risk of heart attack will have halved compared with a smoker's.

After 10 years:

More great news! Your risk of death from lung cancer will have halved compared with a smoker's.

So what do you need to start vaping?

It couldn't be easier to quit with e-cigarettes! All you need is a device, some e-liquid and some coils! There are some things that you need to bear in mind, however:

Nicotine Strength

Finding out what strength of nicotine you'll need can seem like a daunting one, but though it can take a little experimenting it's a lot easier than you might think! Here's a handy list to help you get a rough idea of where to start:

Number of cigarettes Nicotine Strength
1-10 3mg
10-15 6mg / 11mg Nic Salt
 15-20 12mg / 11mg Nic Salt
20+ 20mg Nic Salt

Type of Device

Now we can't exactly dictate what kind of device you should be starting with, but we can certainly detail what different types there are and help point you in the right direction of what works for you!

Pod Kits

Pod kits are the simplest devices in terms of ease of use, simplicity and convenience, They're also some of the most versatile devices, with multiple coil options, colours and styles!

Pod kits are mainly used for higher nicotine strengths as to aid in the mimicking of sensation from a traditional analogue cigarette. However, with the lower resistance of some coils it can happily run higher VG e-liquids too!

We would personally recommend the Voopoo Drag S or Argus Air pod mods as they have the most versatility with coil options, with an option for an XL 5ml tank!

High wattage mods

High wattage mods (or box mods as they're sometimes called), are devices mainly used for dedicated sub-ohm tanks which support high wattages. These sub-ohm tank are exclusively used with higher VG liquids with lower nicotine strengths, as thinner liquids with higher nicotine strengths can cause the tank to leak and feel very harsh on the throat.

For convenience we would suggest the Voopoo Drag X mod, but if you're looking for a little more power the Argus GT mod is the choice to go!

Shortfill or 50/50?

The type of E-Liquid that you will use comes down to the type of coil/device that you use. Typically, lower resistance coils will require higher VG liquids (Shortfills), and higher resistance coils will need lower VG liquids (50/50 blend).
